Tesla Launches the Megablock and Signs a 25 GWh Megapack Deal for Europe

A new pre-engineered grid battery debuts at Mega Munich — alongside a multi-year, multi-billion-dollar Megapack agreement with NatPower for Italy and the UK.

Tesla's quietest business is becoming one of its most important — and it had a big week. On June 24, at its "Mega Munich" event, Tesla launched the Megablock, a pre-engineered grid-scale battery designed to make utility storage faster and cheaper to deploy.

What the Megablock is

Instead of shipping individual units to be wired together on site, the Megablock bundles several Megapack 3 units with the busbar assembly and switchgear into one factory-built block. Tesla is now manufacturing the transformer itself, too — a step deeper into vertical integration that should cut both cost and the time it takes to stand up a project.

The day before the launch, Tesla signed a multi-year agreement with the independent energy firm NatPower to supply more than 25 GWh of Megapack storage across Italy and the United Kingdom, a deal valued at up to $5 billion for its initial phase. It's one of the largest grid-storage commitments Tesla has ever announced.

Scaling up fast

The factories are keeping pace. Tesla's Shanghai Megapack plant is running at roughly a 40 GWh annual rate with more than 2,000 units shipped, and a new Megafactory near Houston targeting 50 GWh a year is slated to begin production late in 2026. For context, Tesla deployed a record 46.7 GWh of energy storage worldwide in 2025 — up 48% year over year.

Why it matters if you drive a Tesla

A bigger, more profitable energy business helps fund the rest of the company — including the battery and software work that flows straight into the cars and into Powerwall for home backup. The same cells and know-how that stabilize the grid are what make a Tesla cheap to charge at home.
