Tesla Plans Another 20% Output Boost at Giga Berlin and Adds 1,000 Jobs

A second straight production increase would take the German plant to a target of 7,500 Model Ys a week from October — and bring roughly 1,000 more hires with it.

Tesla is leaning into European demand. On June 25, 2026, the company confirmed plans to raise output at its Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg by another 20% — its second consecutive increase of that size — to a target of 7,500 vehicles a week, with the ramp beginning in October 2026.

Production up, hiring up

The expansion comes with about 1,000 new jobs, the second such hiring round at the plant, and pushes toward roughly 3,500 total new positions when battery investments are included. For context, Giga Berlin built more than 61,000 Model Ys in the first quarter of 2026 — around 4,700 a week — so the new target is a meaningful step up in the factory's run rate.

When a plant adds shifts and people rather than trimming them, it's usually a sign the cars coming off the line are finding buyers. A higher European run rate also tends to mean healthier local inventory and shorter waits for the Model Y, the plant's flagship product and the best-selling vehicle in its class.

What it means if you're shopping

Stronger production and a growing order book often translate into better availability and, periodically, sharper financing or pricing offers. If you're weighing a Model Y against a comparable gas car, our Tesla vs gas cost calculator runs the full eight-year picture for your state — charging, insurance, depreciation, fees and all — so you can see exactly where the break-even lands.

Tesla expects the higher output to begin phasing in this October. It's another data point in a year that has, so far, trended toward more cars, not fewer.
