Tesla's New 'Charge Stats 2' Gamifies Charging — With Free Supercharging for Life on the Line
A revamped in-app charging dashboard adds maps, badges, and real gas-price comparisons, alongside a 2026 competition that will hand nine owners free Supercharging for as long as they own their car.
Tesla is turning charging into a game. Around June 23, 2026, the company began rolling out a revamped 'Charge Stats 2' experience in the Tesla app — and paired it with a 2026 competition that will award nine owners worldwide free Supercharging for as long as they own their vehicle.
A richer charging dashboard
Charge Stats 2 adds an interactive map of every Supercharger you've ever connected to (defaulting to a 12-month view), along with range-added totals, spending, and — handy for EV-vs-gas bragging rights — a comparison against local gas prices. There's also an expanded badges system: 'Milestones' like a Charging Streak or 'Explorer,' plus 'Iconic Chargers' for stalls at famous landmarks.
Free Supercharging for life — to nine winners
The headline hook is the 2026 Free Supercharging Competition. Tesla will pick nine winners globally — three regions times three categories — and the prize is free Supercharging for as long as you own the car. The three categories reward the longest streak of unique Supercharger visits, the most unique sites visited, and the highest total energy added. To be eligible, owners need to view their 2026 Charging Passport before January 1, 2027; winners will be notified in January 2027.
The honest takeaway
Beyond the fun, the gas-price comparison baked into Charge Stats is genuinely useful — it puts real numbers behind the 'charging is cheaper than gas' claim for your own driving. If you want the full picture before you buy, our Tesla vs gas cost calculator does the same comparison across an eight-year ownership window, including home versus Supercharger charging in your state.
The update is rolling out through the Tesla app; as always, availability depends on your app and vehicle software version.
