Tesla Rolls Out FSD V14 Lite to Legacy Model S and X
The update brings distilled HW4 intelligence to Intel-powered HW3 vehicles but excludes autonomous reversing and Smart Summon.
Tesla has begun rolling out Full Self-Driving (Supervised) v14.3 Lite to legacy Model S and Model X vehicles equipped with Intel-based Hardware 3, marking the first time these older platforms have received the distilled FSD branch.
What Happened
The official Tesla Super Intelligence account on X confirmed the rollout of software update 2026.38.5.1, which delivers FSD v14.3 Lite to Intel-powered HW3 Model S and X vehicles. This release follows earlier deployments to Model 3 and Model Y owners earlier in the year and to AMD-powered HW3 S and X vehicles in September. The update is described as a distillation of the intelligence from the HW4 V14 build, adapted to run on HW3โs memory-constrained computer. Release notes highlight improvements in handling merges, pedestrians, traffic lights, and cut-ins, alongside reduced false slowdowns and smoother steering. Owner Leonard Campagna confirmed the installation on his 2017 Model X and shared that the update includes Speed Profiles and a new FSD streak counter, a feature not explicitly listed in the initial release notes.
Why It Matters
For legacy Model S and X owners, this update represents a significant leap from the v12 software that previously capped their autonomy capabilities. However, the experience is not identical to that of newer Model 3 and Y vehicles on the same hardware. Intel-powered Model S and X vehicles miss out on several key features available to their sedan and crossover counterparts, including Arrival Options, the ability to start FSD from Park, and autonomous reversing. Additionally, Smart Summon is not included. While HW4 vehicles gained autonomous reversing with v13.2, HW3 vehicles remained stuck on v12 until this v14 Lite rollout. Tesla has also confirmed that Halloween Mode, included in the broader update, is not supported on Intel vehicles.
The Bottom Line
FSD v14 Lite is expected to be the last major FSD branch for Hardware 3, as Tesla has confirmed HW3 will not support unsupervised FSD or the upcoming v15 update. While future point releases could potentially add missing parking features, v14.3 Lite currently stands as the best available FSD experience for legacy Model S and X owners until promised hardware upgrades with more powerful AI chips arrive.
