Tesla’s Automations Feature Is Ready for Launch, Hidden Behind a Flag

The feature, which mirrors Apple Shortcuts logic, has been translated into English and appears fully polished in recent firmware.

Tesla’s Automations feature appears ready for a global rollout, having been translated into English and polished within the latest firmware revisions, though it remains hidden behind a feature flag.

What Happened

Maciej Wilczyński, a contributor to the Tesla Android Project, shared footage on X demonstrating the Automations interface running in English. With assistance from user @CoilShift, Wilczyński enabled the feature to display it in its stock condition without modifications. The interface allows users to create "If This, Then That" logic by selecting triggers, adding optional conditions, and chaining actions. For example, a user can set a trigger for the driver’s seatbelt being buckled, add a condition that the passenger seatbelt is unbuckled, and execute an action such as setting the media volume to a specific level.

Michał Gapiński, another member of the Tesla Android Project, also enabled the feature on a separate vehicle, comparing the user experience to "the first version of Shortcuts on iOS." The system supports various triggers including time, environment data, voice commands, seat occupancy, seatbelt status, door and window states, gear selection, charging status, and location. Actions can control climate settings, locks, media, lights, and navigation. Currently, the feature has limitations: automations only run when the center display is on, they cannot be triggered while Autopilot or Full Self-Driving is active, and actions that control FSD are not yet available.

Why It Matters

The presence of a fully translated and polished Automations feature in Western firmware signals that Tesla is preparing to expand this functionality beyond China, where it first rolled out earlier this year. For owners, this represents a significant step toward deeper vehicle customization, allowing for complex routines that automate daily interactions with the car without requiring third-party hardware. The feature is considered a strong candidate for Tesla’s upcoming Holiday Update, the company’s most substantial software release of the year. Additionally, reports suggest that Apple CarPlay support may accompany Automations in the same update, following years of development and collaboration with Apple to resolve integration issues.

The Bottom Line

Tesla’s Automations feature is technically ready for global deployment, currently concealed behind a software flag in recent firmware. Owners should anticipate its potential release in the upcoming Holiday Update, possibly alongside official Apple CarPlay support, marking a major enhancement to the vehicle’s infotainment ecosystem.
