Tesla Opens 14 Semi Megacharger Stalls Between Atlanta and Savannah

The new sites mark the first public charging corridor for the Tesla Semi outside of California.

Tesla has activated its first Semi Megacharger sites in the Southeast, establishing a critical charging link between the Atlanta and Savannah metropolitan areas. The rollout includes eight stalls near Atlanta and six outside Savannah, providing the heavy-duty electric truck with its first public charging corridor beyond California.

What Happened

The network expansion consists of two distinct locations announced by Tesla’s Semi account on X. The Atlanta-area site is located in Conley, Georgia, approximately 10 miles south of downtown near I-285 and I-675, offering eight Megachargers rated at up to 1.2 MW per stall. The Savannah-area site is situated in Ellabell, about 20 miles west of the city on I-16, and features six stalls at Pilot truck stop #1390. Pilot confirmed that the Ellabell location is the first to open under its partnership with Tesla, a rollout that was originally scheduled for the summer but delayed until October 8.

Why It Matters

For fleet operators, these two stations bridge a roughly 220-mile gap on I-75 and I-16, making the round trip between the Savannah port area and Atlanta feasible for Tesla’s Standard Range Semi. Tesla rates the Standard Range model at 325 miles and the Long Range at 500 miles under full load, with Megachargers capable of restoring up to 60% of range in 30 minutes. This infrastructure allows drivers to complete a 440-mile round trip by charging during mandatory breaks, eliminating the need for diesel refueling on this high-volume freight lane.

The Bottom Line

While the addition of 14 stalls brings the total customer-facing Megacharger count to 26 across four sites, Tesla remains significantly behind its initial plan to have about 37 sites operational by the end of 2026. With volume production of the Semi recently launched and a 2,500-truck order secured, the pace of this charging network expansion will be a key indicator of the vehicle's deployment trajectory.
