Tesla Rolls Out Halloween Mode With Update 2026.38.3
The update transforms the car's visualizations into a ghost and introduces Trick or Treat Sentry Mode.
Tesla has officially rolled out its Halloween Mode with software update 2026.38.3, turning eligible vehicles into "a haunted house on wheels" with extensive visual and audio changes.
What Happened
The new feature, announced on X, allows owners to change their car's avatar to a glowing white ghost with soulless eyes. When parked, the fullscreen visualization shifts to a graveyard scene featuring a full moon, a haunted house, withered trees, jack-o'-lanterns, and a zombie hand emerging from the dirt. Opening a door causes the ghost car to open its door, revealing a skeleton climbing inside.
The transformation extends to driving visuals. On the navigation screen, the user's car remains a ghost while nearby vehicles appear green, as if infected with ectoplasm, and pedestrians are rendered as walking skeletons. For those using Full Self-Driving (Supervised), the path visualization changes from blue to purple. Additionally, a new "Trick or Treat" mode functions similarly to Sentry Mode; when enabled, the car plays spooky sounds and flickers its lights when visitors approach, while still recording footage.
Other additions include a new Halloween light show, themed lock sounds, and specific wraps, such as a black finish with white ghosts and bats. The Photobooth feature now offers Polaroid-style frames captioned "Happy Halloween" and "Trick or Treat," along with new spooky stickers. The Boombox feature also supports a new scary voice option when speaking through the Tesla app.
Why It Matters
Halloween Mode joins Santa Mode as Teslaβs second holiday transformation, with release notes inviting owners to "spread holiday fear year round," suggesting the feature will remain accessible in the Toybox after October. However, availability is limited by hardware. The update is confirmed for vehicles with AMD-powered infotainment systems. Support for Intel-based models has not been confirmed; these older systems will not receive the fullscreen parked scene or Photobooth enhancements due to graphics limitations, though they may retain custom wraps and lock sounds. The status of the Halloween-themed driving visuals for Intel vehicles remains unclear.
The update also includes functional improvements beyond the holiday theme. It introduces Emergency Drive Away, allowing drivers to immediately break away from a Supercharger in an emergency, and adds Powershare Home Backup capabilities for new Model 3 and Model Y vehicles. Given that Halloween is just over three weeks away, the update is expected to reach most owners in time for the holiday.
The Bottom Line
Tesla's 2026.38.3 update delivers a comprehensive Halloween experience for AMD-equipped vehicles, including ghost avatars, spooky driving visualizations, and a new Sentry Mode variant. While it offers year-round availability similar to Santa Mode, Intel-based owners face potential feature restrictions due to hardware constraints.
