Tesla May Be Getting Ready to Launch Cybercabs in Houston
Drone footage estimates nearly 200 Cybercabs at the Houston Robotaxi lot, signaling potential expansion beyond Austin.
Tesla may be preparing to deploy its steering wheel-less Cybercab in Houston, as drone footage reveals a significant accumulation of the vehicles at the cityβs Robotaxi lot.
What Happened
Longtime Tesla observer S.E. Robinson, Jr. shared drone footage from October 6, 2026, showing an "extremely busy day" at Teslaβs Robotaxi lot in Houston. Robinson estimated that between 190 and 200 Cybercabs are currently present in the city. The video showed long rows of gold Cybercabs filling most of the lot, with approximately 15 vehicles charging and others parked inside Teslaβs Hempstead Center. Additionally, several Cybercabs were observed pulling out of the lot and driving on nearby public roads, indicating ongoing testing.
Why It Matters
Houston is one of seven U.S. markets where Tesla currently offers Robotaxi service, but Cybercab rides have so far been exclusive to Austin. The presence of nearly 200 Cybercabs in Houston suggests Tesla is positioning itself for a second-city launch. This move follows a recent expansion of the Austin fleet, where Tesla added 111 Cybercabs to reach a total of 169 in just a couple of weeks. With Austinβs fleet now substantial, Houston becomes a logical next step due to its proximity to Austin and its existing infrastructure for fully unsupervised Model Y robotaxi rides within a 25-square-mile service area. Miami remains another potential candidate, with residents having tracked a large concentration of Cybercabs near Miami International Airport for months.
The Bottom Line
While Tesla has not officially announced Cybercab plans for Houston, the physical presence of close to 200 vehicles on the ground indicates that the fleet is ready for deployment whenever the company decides to launch service in the city.
