Selling Sunset Star Jason Oppenheim Trades Bentley for Tesla Model Y Citing FSD Safety

Oppenheim plans to purchase ten Teslas for his employees after experiencing Full Self-Driving on a 75-minute commute.

Jason Oppenheim, the luxury real estate broker and star of Netflix’s Selling Sunset, has permanently retired his Bentley in favor of a Tesla Model Y, attributing the switch to the capabilities of Full Self-Driving (Supervised).

What Happened

Oppenheim shared a video on X on Saturday evening, describing it as "the most important video I’ve ever posted." The clip documented a roughly 75-minute commute from Newport Beach to The Oppenheim Group’s Los Angeles office, during which FSD handled the driving and parking without Oppenheim touching the wheel or accelerator. He stated that he handed the Bentley over to his father because he no longer had a use for it. Tesla subsequently reshared the clip, highlighting Oppenheim’s claim that FSD is "life-changing" and "8x safer than the average driver." Elon Musk also responded to the video, posting that "Tesla FSD feels like magic."

Why It Matters

This endorsement arrives as Tesla reports record quarterly deliveries of 486,532 vehicles in Q3, achieved without the $7,500 federal EV tax credit. The shift highlights the growing influence of Full Self-Driving as a primary value proposition for high-net-worth buyers. Since transitioning to a subscription-only model in February at $99 per month, Tesla has seen active subscriptions rise to 1.48 million, with more than 55 percent of new North American deliveries including FSD. Oppenheim’s decision to purchase ten Teslas for his employees—partly to mitigate distracted driving—could add approximately $11,880 annually in FSD revenue to his business. This aligns with data from Tesla AI head Ashok Elluswamy, who noted in July that FSD had logged over 12 billion miles and traveled roughly twice as far between collisions as manual driving.

The Bottom Line

Jason Oppenheim’s switch from a Bentley to a Tesla Model Y underscores the shifting priorities of luxury buyers, who are increasingly valuing autonomous driving safety and utility over traditional brand prestige. While FSD remains a supervised system requiring driver attention, its integration into corporate fleets and personal vehicles continues to drive subscription revenue and brand loyalty.
