Tesla Robotaxi App Now Available in Many More Countries
Service remains limited to seven U.S. cities, with international availability primarily targeting tourists visiting the States.
Tesla has expanded the availability of its Robotaxi application to numerous countries, allowing users to download the app from both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. This move removes geographic barriers for installation, though the actual ride-hailing service remains confined to specific U.S. markets.
What Happened
The Robotaxi app is now live in regions including the U.K., Australia, Germany, Italy, Sweden, and Singapore, with additional countries expected to follow. Previously, access was restricted; the service launched in beta last summer with an iOS-only app and a waitlist, while an Android version was finally released earlier this spring. Now, anyone can download the app and hail a ride, provided they are physically located within an active service area.
Why It Matters
For international travelers, this update allows them to install and configure the app before arriving in the United States, streamlining access to the service during their visit. However, it is crucial to note that the service itself has not gone global. Tesla currently operates Robotaxi rides in seven U.S. cities: Austin, San Francisco, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Orlando, and Tampa. Furthermore, Cybercab rides are exclusively available in Austin, although recent sightings of driverless Cybercabs in Dallas and Miami suggest potential expansion within existing U.S. markets. In Austin specifically, commercial ride hours were recently extended to 11 p.m.
The Bottom Line
While the appβs availability has widened significantly, Teslaβs autonomous ride-hailing service remains a domestic product. International expansion is still distant, with regulatory hurdles for supervised Full Self-Driving in Europe unresolved. Elon Musk has hinted that Cybercab could come to Europe soon, but no concrete timeline has been provided, and Tesla is likely to prioritize broader U.S. coverage before eyeing international markets.
