Tesla Q3 2026 Deliveries Slip 2% to 486,532, but Beat Estimates

Tesla cleared inventory by delivering 22,141 more vehicles than it produced, marking the second consecutive quarter of destocking.

Tesla delivered 486,532 vehicles in the third quarter of 2026, a 2.1% decrease from the record 497,099 units delivered in Q3 2025, but significantly above Wall Street expectations.

What Happened

According to Tesla’s production and delivery report, the company produced 464,391 vehicles and delivered 486,532 during the quarter. Model 3 and Model Y accounted for 478,237 of those deliveries, while "Other Models"—which includes the Cybertruck, Semi, and remaining Model S and X inventory—added 8,295 units. Deliveries in the "Other Models" category dropped 48% from 15,933 units a year ago. Tesla delivered 22,141 more vehicles than it built, marking the second consecutive quarter where the company worked down inventory. Between Q2 and Q3, Tesla has cleared the roughly 50,000 excess vehicles it built in Q1.

Why It Matters

The year-over-year decline is largely attributed to a tough comparison against Q3 2025, when US buyers rushed to claim the $7,500 federal tax credit before it expired on September 30, 2025. Despite the drop, Tesla’s delivery numbers exceeded the company-compiled consensus of 461,974 by 24,558 units, beating every estimate on the analyst list. The company remains ahead of last year’s pace for the full year, having delivered 1,324,681 vehicles through three quarters, an 8.8% increase from the 1,217,902 delivered at the same point in 2025. However, Tesla’s energy storage deployment of 13.7 GWh missed expectations, falling short of the 15.9 GWh analysts predicted, though it represented a 9.6% increase over the prior year.

The Bottom Line

Tesla successfully beat delivery estimates by drawing down inventory rather than ramping up production, maintaining a year-over-year growth trajectory despite the expiration of the US federal tax credit. While deliveries outperformed consensus, energy storage deployments lagged behind analyst forecasts.
