Tesla Model 3 Gets 16-Inch Screen, Range Boost, and Power Increase in US
The update includes a black headliner for the Performance trim and a 0-60 time reduction for the Premium AWD.
Tesla has updated its Model 3 lineup in the United States, introducing a larger 16-inch center touchscreen across all trims while simultaneously boosting range and performance metrics for dual-motor variants.
What Happened
Tesla North America announced the changes on X, confirming that every Model 3 sold in the US, Puerto Rico, and Mexico now features the 16-inch display, replacing the previous 15.4-inch unit. This rollout follows a similar update in China the day prior. The Model 3 Performance sees its EPA-estimated range increase from 309 to 316 miles, with peak power improved to 528 hp, up from 510 hp at its 2024 launch. The Performance trim also receives a black headliner, though its 0-60 mph time remains unchanged at 2.9 seconds. The Model 3 Premium AWD sees a more significant acceleration improvement, dropping from 4.2 seconds to 3.8 seconds, with range held at 346 miles. Base pricing remains static, with the Model 3 starting at $36,990 and the Performance at $54,990.
Why It Matters
For buyers, the upgrade provides immediate value through enhanced hardware without price hikes, aligning the US Model 3 with the larger screens found in newer Tesla models like the Model Y. However, the update highlights a continued disparity between markets; while Chinese Model 3s gained Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capabilities, US buyers still lack this feature, as Tesla has limited V2L to the Model Y and Cybertruck. Additionally, the Canadian market was excluded from this update, despite sourcing vehicles from the same factory as China, leaving Canadian buyers with the older 15.4-inch screen. Tesla did not specify whether existing owners will receive software updates to unlock the new power or range figures.
The Bottom Line
The US Model 3 lineup is now faster and features a larger screen across all trims, but lacks V2L and the new light gray interior available in China, with no confirmed retroactive benefits for current owners.
