Tesla Launches Updated Model 3 in China With V2L and New Interior
The updated model features a 16-inch touchscreen and replaces the white interior option with Zen Grey.
Tesla has introduced an updated iteration of the Model 3 in China, headlined by the addition of vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality and a revised interior design. The update also brings hardware changes to the cabin display and headliner.
What Happened
The new Chinese-market Model 3 includes a 16-inch front touchscreen with improved resolution, marking a 0.6-inch increase over the 15.4-inch screen currently found in U.S. models. Other notable additions include a standard black headliner and V2L capabilities, which allow the vehicle to power external devices. The interior configuration has also changed: the previously available White option has been discontinued and replaced by a Zen Grey interior, which is now offered in the Premium and Performance trims. Additionally, 19-inch Dark Nova wheels are now standard on the Model 3 Premium trim.
Why It Matters
These updates are significant for global Tesla owners because Giga Shanghai serves as the export hub for markets in Australia and New Zealand, meaning these features and specifications are likely to become available in those regions as well. While the U.S. market has not yet received these specific changes, the black headliner and larger touchscreen have already appeared in some U.S.-built vehicles, suggesting a potential rollout to American trims in the near future. The discontinuation of the white interior in China follows a similar trend in other markets, aligning global design choices. Pricing for the updated Chinese models ranges from 235,500 yuan for the Rear-Wheel-Drive version to 339,500 yuan for the Performance model.
The Bottom Line
Teslaβs update to the China Model 3 introduces V2L, a larger 16-inch screen, and a Zen Grey interior option, while discontinuing the white interior. These changes, driven by Giga Shanghai production, are expected to influence future updates in other global markets, including potential U.S. availability in the coming year.
