Tesla Full Self-Driving Expands to Czechia

Czech Ministry of Transport reverses earlier stance to recognize Dutch type approval, making Czechia the seventh EU country to approve FSD Supervised.

Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) is set to roll out in Czechia after the Czech Ministry of Transport recognized the Dutch RDW’s provisional type approval, making the country the seventh EU member state to clear the system for public roads.

What Happened

Tesla Europe announced on 21 September 2026 that "FSD Supervised is now approved in Czechia" and stated that the rollout "will begin soon." This decision marks a reversal from earlier in 2026, when Prague declined to automatically recognize the Netherlands’ April approval due to concerns over speed-limit compliance, traffic-sign recognition, and driver-attention monitoring. Officials noted that months of expert review, discussions with Tesla and other member states, and real-world data from countries already using the system resolved these issues. The ministry emphasized that "safety remains the top priority."

Why It Matters

The approval allows Czech Tesla owners to access supervised highway and city driving features already available in six other EU countries. Eligible vehicles require AI4 hardware, and Tesla is expected to push the feature over the air in the coming days. This development adds political weight ahead of a 6 October vote by the Technical Committee on Motor Vehicles. If a qualified majority of at least 15 of 27 member states representing 65 percent of the EU population approves a bloc-wide decision, it could open remaining large markets such as Germany, France, Italy, and Spain. Each new market also generates additional European driving data, strengthening the case for FSD Supervised's safety under varied road rules.

The Bottom Line

Czechia joins Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark, Belgium, Slovenia, and the Netherlands as EU states with approved FSD Supervised. While current approvals cover a modest share of the EU population, the cascade of national recognitions builds momentum for a potential unified European rollout pending the October vote.
