Tesla Cybertruck Adds Tailgate Utility Track, Bed Gear Box Targeting Work Use
The two accessories carry $350 and $985 price tags respectively, expanding the truck's L-track mounting ecosystem.
Tesla added two new Cybertruck accessories to its online shop on September 3, both aimed at owners using the truck's bed for actual job site work rather than display.
What Happened
The Tailgate Utility Track ($350) turns the folded-down tailgate into an additional mounting surface. It is a single aluminum track with a T-slot for sliding accessories and two L-track attachment points; two load stops come in the box. The pitch is securing oversized cargo like lumber or coolers that hang off the back of the bed so it does not slide out mid-drive. It bolts onto the existing tailgate and works on every Cybertruck trim. The Bed Gear Box ($985) is a lockable aluminum storage container measuring 55.78 inches long, 19.8 inches wide, and 7.79 inches tall that mounts to the bed's L-track rails. It includes two internal bins for smaller items, weighs just over 57 pounds empty, and is designed to stay installed rather than be removed between trips. Tesla notes that Long Range and Dual Motor AWD Cybertrucks require a separate L-Tracks accessory before the Gear Box can mount, since L-tracks come standard only on certain configurations.
Why It Matters
Both accessories extend an attachment strategy Elon Musk outlined at the 2023 shareholder meeting, when he said the Cybertruck would ship with mounting points so Tesla and third parties could keep adding gear without redesigning the bed. The same L-track backbone underpins the tailgate shield and jumpseats launched last year, plus the off-road armor package that arrived in 2025. For buyers who ordered a Cybertruck expecting genuine work-truck utility, these accessories provide factory-fit storage and tie-down options that previously required aftermarket solutions.
The Bottom Line
The Tailgate Utility Track and Bed Gear Box are available now on Tesla's shop, priced at $350 and $985 respectively, with the L-track ecosystem continuing to expand as Tesla fills out the accessory lineup it promised from launch.
