Tesla Launches V2L Outlet Adapter for Premium Model Y in the U.S.
The $80 adapter enables 120V/20A power output up to 2.4kW from the vehicle's battery.
Tesla has launched a new Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) Outlet Adapter for Premium Model Y vehicles in the United States, allowing owners to power external devices from their vehicle's battery.
What Happened
The adapter is priced at $80 and works with any Model Y Premium trim, including those purchased before the adapter was available. It requires the Mobile Connector as a base unitβthe Outlet Adapter plugs into the main housing where charging adapters normally connect. The accessory is rated for 120 volts and 20 amps, delivering up to 2.4kW of power. However, the capability appears limited to Juniper (newer) Model Y vehicles; first-generation Model Y owners will not have access even if their vehicle was a Premium build.
Why It Matters
The adapter opens up practical use cases for tailgates, camping, and outdoor events where users want to run laptops, string lights, or other small devices. Before this launch, V2L capability was restricted to the Model Y Performance and Cybertruck, making this the first expansion of the feature across Tesla's mainstream lineup. For owners who have requested portable power from their vehicles for an extended period, the $80 accessory provides a solution without requiring a separate battery pack or generator.
The Bottom Line
Tesla's $80 V2L Outlet Adapter brings 120V/20A (2.4kW max) power output to Premium Model Y buyers in the U.S., but compatibility is limited to newer Juniper vehicles and requires an existing Mobile Connector.
