The Boring Company's Liner Truck 3 Runs on Tesla Parts With No Driver Underground

Liner Truck 3 hauls 22,000-pound concrete segments remotely from The Boring Company's Texas control center.

The Boring Company unveiled Liner Truck 3, an all-electric tunnel vehicle built using Tesla Model 3 battery packs and drive units, designed to move heavy concrete segments without anyone operating it underground.

What Happened

Liner Truck 3 was introduced via The Boring Company's official X account on August 7, 2026. The vehicle is purpose-built to haul precast concrete tunnel segments—each weighing more than 22,000 pounds—to the cutting face of Prufrock boring machines. Rather than having an operator inside the tunnel, The Boring Company pilots Liner Truck 3 remotely from its Global Operations Control Center in Texas, extending the company's Zero-People-In-Tunnel approach. An earlier prototype was previously tested at the Bastrop, Texas research tunnels, and a factory tour showed an employee controlling a loaded liner truck using a PlayStation controller.

Why It Matters

The vehicle removes a key bottleneck in tunnel construction: keeping concrete segments flowing to the boring machine fast enough to prevent idle time. The Boring Company now has multiple Prufrock machines active or arriving in Nashville, where Music City Loop construction has accelerated since February, and its Vegas Loop network continues expanding on a near-monthly basis. For Tesla owners and EV observers, it also demonstrates continued component reuse across Musk's companies—Model 3 drive units already transport passengers through the Vegas Loop above ground, and now those same parts haul concrete underground.

The Bottom Line

Liner Truck 3 represents the production version of The Boring Company's remote-controlled tunnel hauling concept, using proven Tesla hardware to support an expanding network of tunneling projects across multiple cities.
