Tesla Summer Update Begins Rolling Out With New Startup Animation, Expanded Voice Controls
The update brings a customizable startup screen to higher-trim Model 3 and Model Y vehicles.
Tesla has begun deploying its 2026 Summer Update across the fleet, bringing new features including a revamped startup animation for some Model 3 and Model Y trims as well as expanded voice command capabilities through Grok.
What Happened
The update introduces a new animated startup screen for Tesla Model 3 and Model Y owners. According to the report, this feature is available on Launch Edition and Performance variants of both models, with drivers able to customize the color associated with the animation. Grok, Tesla's AI assistant, has also received notable improvementsβdrivers can now adjust climate settings, navigation destinations, and driving parameters using voice commands without pressing any buttons, simply by saying "Hey, Grok." The feature was initially enabled in the 2026 Spring Update just months ago.
Why It Matters
The expanded Grok functionality could prove particularly relevant for Tesla's autonomous ambitions. Since the Cybercab robotaxi is being designed without traditional interior controls, voice-activated vehicle adjustments represent a step toward that hands-off operational model. For current owners of higher-trim Model 3 and Model Y vehicles, the customizable startup animation adds a layer of personalization that was previously unavailable on those models.
The Bottom Line
Tesla's 2026 Summer Update is now making its way to some vehicles with new startup animations for select Model 3 and Model Y trims alongside broader voice control capabilities through Grok. Not all features have appeared yet, with Caraoke scoring among the additions mentioned but not yet visible.
