In Latvia, Tesla built on its late 2025 registration of 'Tesla Latvia SIA' with recent job postings for a service center and representation in Riga. The company has been strengthening its Baltic footprint following a model similar to Lithuania's approach of pop-up stores and service centers. In Uruguay, Tesla established 'Tesla Uruguay SAS,' homologated Model 3 and Model Y (three versions each), and appointed local leadership. The company teased the arrival with social media posts including 'Estamos llegando' ('We are arriving') ahead of an official mid-July presentation.
Why It Matters
Latvia's EV market is modest but growing, with battery-electric vehicles representing about 7 percent of new passenger car registrations in 2025—1,602 BEVs out of roughly 22,500 total. Combined plug-in hybrids approach 19 percent. Tesla's entry brings official sales, service, and warranty coverage to a market where its models already lead local EV registrations. Uruguay presents an even more advanced opportunity: BEVs exceed 20 percent market share, driven by tax incentives, high fuel prices, and a nearly 95-100 percent renewable electricity grid. Hundreds of Teslas already operate via grey imports; official sales now bring full support to those customers.
