Tesla Expands Robotaxi to Florida, Marking Its Third State for Autonomy

The Miami geofence covers roughly 10–14 square miles including Miami International Airport.

Tesla has expanded its Robotaxi program to Miami, Florida, marking the third state where the autonomous ride-hailing service is now operational.

What Happened

The company announced on July 3 that Robotaxi would officially launch rides within a geofence in Miami covering approximately 10 to 14 square miles. The initial zone focuses on western and central Miami, including Miami International Airport, as well as key routes such as SR 826 (Palmetto Expressway), US 41 (Tamiami Trail), and connectors including SR 968, 953, 959, and 972. This launch follows the original debut in Austin, Texas, on June 22 of last year, an expansion to the San Francisco Bay Area in late July 2025, and further growth within Texas with Dallas and Houston added on April 18.

Why It Matters

Florida represents a significant new market for Tesla's autonomous ambitions. The state draws heavy tourist traffic annually, including visitors heading to coastal areas like Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach, and the Boynton region. By prioritizing airport-linked routes in its initial Miami rollout, Tesla is targeting high-traffic corridors that could generate meaningful ride volume early in the deployment. The launch also positions Robotaxi alongside established competitors like Waymo, which previously launched with a broader eastern neighborhood focus in the area.

The Bottom Line

Tesla's active Robotaxi network now spans Austin, Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio in Texas, the Bay Area in California, and Miami in Florida—three states total. The company is pursuing a city-by-city, state-by-state scaling strategy that began with limited operations in Austin and has steadily grown over the past year.
