Tesla Confirms FSD v14 Lite International Release

Global HW3 owners will get the update after US rollout, though no definitive timeline exists yet.

Tesla has confirmed that FSD (Supervised) v14 Lite, its distilled version of the main v14 branch designed for memory-constrained Hardware 3 vehicles, will eventually roll out internationally after completing its U.S. deployment.

What Happened

Tesla began rolling out FSD v14 Lite to early access testers with older HW3/AI3 vehicles in the U.S. this week via software update 2026.20.5.1. This marks the first FSD update for legacy HW3 vehicles in roughly 14 months. The company confirmed back in April that international expansion was planned, stating on X: 'Following future rollout of FSD V14 Lite for HW3 vehicles in the US, we plan on expanding V14 Lite to additional international markets.' Since AI3 hardware has just 15% of the memory bandwidth of AI4, compressing FSD v14 into a functional build for these older vehicles represents what Tesla calls a 'massive achievement.' Initial feedback from testers shows significant improvements in overall smoothness, performance, and decision-making.

Why It Matters

International rollout is subject to several factors including completion of technical verification, regional adaptation, and relevant regulatory approvals—meaning no definitive dates are available. Canada stands out as the most likely first destination since it remains one of only two countries outside the U.S. to have ever had FSD approved for HW3 vehicles. Five European countries (Netherlands, Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark, Belgium) have already approved FSD v14, and with EU HW3 owners organizing collective action over being excluded from rollouts, Europe may also be prioritized. South Korea—where roughly 50,000 HW3 vehicles operate—is another primary target for expansion.

The Bottom Line

Tesla has confirmed that FSD v15 will only be available for AI4 and AI5 vehicles, meaning there will be no 'FSD v15 Lite.' Older HW3 vehicles won't achieve true unsupervised autonomy on their current hardware. Instead, v14 Lite acts as a stopgap to keep these vehicles running modern features until physical retrofits with next-generation chips become available—expected at the earliest in late 2027.
