Tesla Android App Adds Real-Time Live Update Notifications

Tesla has rolled out real-time Live Update notifications for its Android app, giving owners a way to monitor Supercharging sessions directly from the lock screen without unlocking their phone.

The Tesla app for Android now supports interactive, real-time notifications that appear on the lock screen and in the notification area. The feature was discovered in backend code for version 4.58.0 earlier this month and is now officially live. Notifications display a custom vehicle avatar alongside a charging progress bar, showing current state of charge percentage, estimated session cost, time remaining until reaching the charge limit, and a countdown for how long until there's enough range to continue on a planned route. Tesla originally introduced similar real-time charging alerts with iOS Live Activities back in May 2025.

Why It Matters

Android owners previously had to wake their phone, unlock it, and open the Tesla app just to check charging progress—putting them at a disadvantage compared to iPhone users who have had this convenience. The new notifications bring feature parity by leveraging Android 16's Live Updates capability. Beyond charging, the rollout signals broader plans: Tesla launched its dedicated Robotaxi app on Android earlier this spring, and with iOS users already having Live Activities for autonomous ride-hailing trips, Android owners can expect similar Live Update support for Robotaxi rides.
